Ferno was on the field of play again last night - this time
in the international “friendly” between England
and Holland.
The greatest concern was for Chris Smalling who suffered a
clash of heads with Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. Both players were taken to hospital,
after having to be revived on the pitch, and underwent scans.
Smalling was stretchered off on a Ferno Model 71 basket
stretcher which then got put onto a York
4 trolley at Wembley.
“Chris Smalling took
a really bad bang on the head, split it open and has gone to hospital,” England
caretaker manager Stuart Pearce said. “I spoke to him as he came off the pitch
so he was conscious.” Similarly Dutch coach Bert Van Marwijk expressed his
concern over Huntelaar.
Daniel Sturridge later limped off with what Pearce described
as a “blow on the toe” and there were fears last night that he may have
suffered a fracture while the man the Chelsea
striker replaced in the first half,
