HO HO HO and a Merry Christmas Jumper Day

Thank you to all who took part in the craze that seems to be sweeping the Nation - wear a Christmas jumper to work day!

On Thursday 18th December employees paid for the pleasure and we collected... £40.00, FERNO offered to donate a further £5 per person that took part, therefore we will be donating £145 to Starlight Children’s Foundation.

We had great fun with amusing jumpers, lots of tinsel and baubles, even Santa’s elf took part.

1st was Allison (The Cracker) Rodgers
2nd Julie (Santa’s little helper) Cooper
3rd Simon (HO HO HO) Murgatroyd

Ferno donates newly developed product

Gemma & Stephen Antell from the Life After Loss charity who provide support and information to those who have been through the death of a baby at any stage of pregnancy, or early in life approached Ferno UK to create a dignified way of transporting a baby from ward to mortuary, as the current facility is over 30 years old in design.

Ferno UK designed, manufactured and donated the unit below to the charity during Gemma & Stephen’s visit to Ferno UK and they said It's something I would like to see in more hospitals even though that sounds terrible, it's all about those little things that make the experience slightly more bearable for the family, we thank Ferno for everything they have done to support our charity.”

More information on Life After Loss can be found at the following www.lifeafterloss.org.uk

#YAA Thank Ferno (UK) Ltd

Cleckheaton medical equipment manufacturer Ferno has been honoured with a Corporate Supporters Award from Yorkshire Air Ambulance at their annual Recognition Awards.

Boss Jon Ellis has led the way with his charity work raising over £20,000 in four years by cycling a total distance of 1,200 miles with Huddersfield football club’s ‘Pedal for Pounds’ events.

The company adopted YAA as its chosen charity for their 40th anniversary after previously donating medical equipment for the charity’s helicopters.

Employees have responded by nearly matching Jon’s total of £20,000 through their own money making ideas such as recycling clothes and footwear, holding home-made cake sales and having monthly casual dress days.

Jon, 46, said: “When you’re cycling through the wind and rain I just think of all the stories I’ve heard about people who have been rescued by the air ambulance and that really drives me on.

“The Yorkshire Air Ambulance is saving lives every day and is such a brilliant charity that I encouraged everyone to try and match whatever I could raise.”

The charity exists solely on donations and requires almost £10,000 a day, or £3.6 million a year, in order to provide emergency helicopter response all over Yorkshire.

The awards were held at Aspire in Leeds and were hosted by television presenter and charity patron Gaynor Barnes.

Richard Lee Nicol

Ferno UK is sorry to hear that Richard Lee Nicol, 74 passed away on Saturday 29 November at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. Richard who was also known as Dick Nicol was born on the 3 January 1940 in Toledo, and he retired from Ferno Washington in 2005 after serving 37 years of service. Dick also served in the U.S. Marine Corps, was a volunteer Fireman with HFD, and at the time of his death was secretary of the Prospect Cemetery Association.

Our MD, Jon Ellis knew Dick for over 20 years and said that “Dick was such a pleasant person, he would always do anything to help and he was very conscientious in all the great work he did in leading the technical writing team at Ferno.”

Dick will be sadly missed by all at Ferno UK and we send our condolences to his wife Mary Ann, two sons Scott & Craig and their extended family at this sad time.

30 FERNO years Celebration – for Jon Ellis our MD

Today has been amazing, our MD Jon Ellis has reached 30 years service and to celebrate we have had a party – starting with a wonderful THIS IS YOUR LIFE presentation where we saw faces old and new, past colleagues, family members and friends from industry and beyond all paid tribute, even his delightful children made a video for their dad.

Not only did we smother him in love and respect, he came out of it with some great gifts and the usual unusual cake.

Alan Clark, who is also celebrating 5 years service on the 7th (well done Alan) did a fantastic job of being the host presenter (Michael Aspel was not available) and for one moment it did get a bit emotional!!!

We finished with a toast to the future and we all left not only feeling a bit fuller in the belly but in experience too! To all involved, guests and staff - thank you for helping us make our MDs 30years one to remember for the next 30 years.
